A suspected intoxicated driver with a loaded gun crashed a stolen truck into a Mill Valley apartment, authorities said.
The incident began at 10:30 p.m. Monday when police detected a driver entering San Francisco in a Ford F350 truck that had been reported stolen, said Officer Bret Diaz of the California Highway Patrol.
Without using their sirens, CHP officers followed the driver from northbound Interstate 280 to 19th Avenue and over the Golden Gate Bridge, Diaz said. The suspect took the Highway 1 exit into Mill Valley.
When a CHP officer in an unmarked car attempted a traffic stop, the suspect fled to Ethel Avenue south of Throckmorton Avenue. He lost control of the truck and drove into a driveway, crashing into a building.
Robert Lee Walton, 43, of Oakland was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, evading police, driving under the influence of drugs, hit-and-run driving with property damage and other crimes. His bail amount was set at $25,000.
