San Rafael firefighters rescued two people after their inflatable raft was swept out into San Francisco Bay by high winds.
The incident was reported just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday during winds of about 30 mph. The lightweight raft was in the middle of the shipping lane about a mile south of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
“You couldn’t even see them out there with the swells,” San Rafael fire Battalion Chief Jason Hatfield said Monday.
Rescuers launched from the Marin Rod and Gun Club in San Rafael and brought the boaters to safety at Loch Lomond Marina. The men were in shorts and T-shirts and did not have life vests on board. No injuries were reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard and the California Highway Patrol assisted in the emergency.
