A suspect in a shooting that injured one victim and forced a lockdown in the Canal neighborhood surrendered Thursday, San Rafael police said.
The shooting was reported just after 11 a.m. on Novato Street, police Lt. Dan Fink said. Police closed down the area between Canal Street and Kerner Boulevard while canvassing the neighborhood for the suspect and possible witnesses. The street was expected to remain closed through the afternoon, Fink said.
The victim was found conscious, laying in the street with a single gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to a local hospital. His condition was unknown, Fink said.
Witnesses reported an altercation between a male suspect and the victim prior to the shooting. The suspect, whose name was not released, came out of his residence several hours after the incident and was taken into custody, Fink said.
