Novato police arrested a man who allegedly threatened a victim with a knife and tried to steal his wallet.
The incident was reported at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Redwood Boulevard and San Marin Drive. The accuser told police he swung his backpack at the robber to fend him off, and the robber tripped him and punched him several times in the face.
The robber was unable to get the wallet and rode off on a bike. Novato paramedics took the victim to a hospital for treatment of “significant” injuries, the police department said.
Police detained a suspect at about 10:15 p.m. on First Street near Grant Avenue. Lamont Elkins, 31, of Novato was booked into the county jail on suspicion of attempted robbery, brandishing a weapon and battery resulting in great bodily injury.
