Investigators arrested a Fairfax man after linking him to a Corte Madera hotel room containing suspected LSD and ecstasy, according to the county drug squad.
Central Marin police contacted the man on Tuesday during a routine patrol near the hotel. Police established that he is on federal probation and was renting a room at the hotel, said sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Petersen, assistant commander of the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force.
Police searched the room and called in county drug investigators.
The suspect, Norman Wayne Metcalf, had nearly 10 pounds of processed marijuana, more than $32,000 in cash, suspected LSD and blotter paper. The alleged ecstasy — a common name for the psychoactive drug MDMA, or methylenedioxymethamphetamine — weighed more than a pound, Petersen said.
“Based on the condition of the LSD and additional new blotter papers, it appeared that Metcalf was in the process of manufacturing LSD ‘tabs,’” he said.
Metcalf, 41, was booked at the county jail on drug manufacturing, sales and possession allegations. He was released pending further review by prosecutors.
Metcalf could not be reached for comment. His criminal history includes an LSD conspiracy case in Wyoming, according to federal court documents.
Petersen said the investigation is still active and potential sources can call the task force at 800-369-4694.
