The Bay Area Air Quality Management District did not expect to issue a third straight Spare the Air Alert after smoky air from a fire in Sonoma County that has burned more than 1,000 acres receded a bit early Monday.
The district’s site forecast no alert for Tuesday, ending a two-day run of them that marked the first two of 2024.
The district issued the first alert Sunday and extended it through Monday, citing the Point Fire. That blaze had burned 1,190 acres by Monday afternoon and was 20% contained, according to an update from Cal Fire.
The district’s air map showed the air quality throughout the East Bay and South Bay as mostly good through 11 a.m. The air quality in areas of the North Bay was moderate.
Alerts mean it is illegal to burn wood, fire logs, pellets or other solid fuels in fireplaces, wood stoves, outdoor fire pits or any other wood-burning device.
