A gas leak Thursday forced the evacuation of the Mill Valley Market grocery store and the temporary closure of downtown Mill Valley, authorities said.
Southern Marin and Mill Valley firefighters responded at 10:49 a.m. to a report of a gas line rupture under the street at Corte Madera and Throckmorton Avenues.
Firefighters arrived to find an inch-thick gas line had been damaged by crews excavating the street, Mill Valley fire Batallion Chief Scott Barnes said.
Authorities cleared the area and advised residents to stay away from downtown.
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. fixed the leak at 11:36 a.m.
