A 45-year-old man has been charged in a Novato child molestation investigation.
Carlos Alejandro Chi-Chi, a Novato resident, allegedly molested the victim over a period of about four years, according to a complaint filed by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office.
Novato police learned of the allegations on Thursday and arrested Chi-Chi at the Safeway store in the Hamilton neighborhood. During his booking at the county jail, Chi-Chi listed his occupation as produce manager.
The prosecution filed charges on Friday. The complaint alleges five felony crimes including rape, and says the most recent crime happened on Thursday.
Chi-Chi remained in custody Monday with no bail amount set. A court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday. His public defender did not respond to a request for comment.
Novato police Sgt. Alan Bates declined to comment on whether other victims could be involved, citing the ongoing investigation. He declined to release additional details to protect the confidentiality of the alleged victim.
