Novato police arrested a woman after an alleged crime spree over the weekend.

The events unfolded as police and firefighters were called to the 1400 block of North Hamilton Parkway just after 8:30 p.m. Sunday to a report that a baby was not breathing, said police Lt. Sophia Winter.

Police figured out the report was fictitious, but while they were in the area, they heard that a woman “had discharged a fire extinguisher at a nearby hotel and pulled the fire alarm,” forcing an evacuation, Winter said.

From the hotel the woman went to a nearby supermarket, “stole several items,” and threw a stolen drink bottle through the window of a car parked outside, Winter said.

When officers confronted the woman outside Hamilton Marketplace on Nave Drive, she gave a false name and resisted arrest, but they were eventually able to identify her as 46-year-old Megan Jeanine Mancini of Novato, and found “two large knives that were concealed in her pants,” Winter said.

Mancini was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of making a false report, giving false information to police, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and vandalism.

During the booking process authorities found controlled substances hidden in her clothes, Winter said. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office’s booking log showed she was also booked on suspicion of bringing narcotics into a jail.

Mancini was not in custody as of Tuesday morning. She was not reachable for comment.
