PORT COSTA — A Thursday evacuation warning for the entire town of Port Costa was lifted after nearly three hours, as air and ground fire crews continue working to contain a 50-acre blaze.
The Crockett Carquinez Fire Department reported a little after 5:30 p.m. that the blaze, dubbed the Scenic Fire, had grown to 50 acres and that firefighters were on the scene. It was reported just after 2:30 p.m. in the area of Carquinez Scenic and Canyon Lake drives, east of Crockett.
At around 3:30, the Crockett Carquinez Fire Department issued a warning for the entire town of roughly 250 residents to be ready to leave if need be. In lifting the warning, the department issued a statement saying firefighters are making “solid progress.”
The weather alongside the Carquinez Strait shoreline was being reported in the mid-80s with gusts of wind up to 20 mph on Thursday afternoon.
Contra Costa Sheriff’s deputies were on scene to assist in case an evacuation order was issued, Crockett fire department spokesman Steve Trotter said.
