A San Rafael man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter after authorities said he struck and killed a pedestrian in Lucas Valley.
The incident occurred at around 9:23 p.m. Tuesday on Rubicon Court, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver of a 2016 Land Rover was traveling northbound when he hit a woman standing in the road in front of the vehicle, the CHP said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The driver, Brian David Phillips, 39, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, said CHP Officer Darrel Horner. He was not hurt.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending a family notification.
The investigation into the collision is ongoing, the CHP said.
